Christian Siriano SPRING 2025 READY-TO-WEAR

Christian Siriano's Dark Fairy Tale: A Runway of Twisted Romance and Size Inclusivity

In the opulent ballroom of the Pierre Hotel, Christian Siriano conjured a world of "dark fairyland" – a whimsical yet haunting tableau where a giant weeping willow tree stood sentinel amidst a sea of black-tie clad guests, including Selma Blair, Cyndi Lauper, and Lil’ Kim.

Siriano's signature tulle gowns and voluminous silhouettes took on a twisted romanticism, reflecting the designer's own internal struggle with the complexities of his business.

"I was feeling all that darkness, but I was also in an evening, glamour mood," he confessed, explaining the fusion of eerie and elegant that defined the collection.

The show opened with a black, off-the-shoulder leather dress featuring beaded cutouts inspired by tree bark, evoking a captivating nymph. The first 17 looks adhered to a predominantly black palette, a departure from Siriano's usual playful color schemes. Yet, this sombre tone soon gave way to a white fairy bride aesthetic, featuring asymmetrical tuxedo jackets and strapless corset gowns with dramatic draped skirts.

While the collection largely embraced a monochromatic palette, Siriano injected vibrancy through "tattooed" black lacework on tops, pants, and gowns, adding a touch of edgy sophistication. His commitment to size diversity shone through, offering black looks in a variety of silhouettes and sizes.

The collection's brighter moments arrived with a burst of color. Pink tulle frocks with exaggerated shoulders and voluminous skirts brought a touch of whimsical joy, while a floor-length tulle gown in a dégradé of blues and purples showcased Siriano's mastery of texture and silhouette.

Floral motifs, true to the fantasy theme, graced the sleeves of ball gowns and appeared as a giant lily across the chest.

Embroidered metallics on sheer mesh netting created captivating knee-length cocktail dresses, sure to be red carpet favorites. However, the repetitive use of this design element might have benefited from an edit, making the collection feel a tad too long.

The show concluded with a powerful flourish, as supermodels Jessica Stam and Coco Rocha emerged as shimmering silver fairies. Rocha graced the runway in a sculptural gown with an exaggerated neckline and hood, while Stam wore one of Siriano's signature silver appliquéd gowns. The appearance of these iconic models added a final touch of magic to this captivating, albeit somewhat repetitive, fairy tale.
